Johan Galtung is prolific and eclectic in his approach to conflict, reconciliation and peace education.  He is widely known as the founder of peace studies and peace journalism in Europe and around the world.  Among his many accomplishments he founded the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo, earned a Ph. D., seven honorary degrees, and published over 100 books and 1,000 articles.  Mr. Galtung, a Norwegian, lost his father during in the Holocaust and has persevered in studying and perfecting techniques that effectively transform conflict through dialogue, reconciliation, respect for cultural diversity, and improved economic and social justice.
